Mobile Climbing Tower |
|||||
|
|
1st Atherton Scout Group are the proud owners of a mobile climbing tower, an "Entre-Prises Rock 'N' Road", specially designed for us in the colours of the new Scout logo and built onto a huge metal trailer, this really is the ultimate in climbing technology! Weighing in at a staggering 2.1 tonnes, measuring 8.6 meters long and over 2.3 meters wide on the trailer, moving the wall is no easy task! Our GSL, Steve, then christened our tower "The Beast" in honour of it's Gargantuan presence! Funding for the tower was from an SRB5 grant through Atherton Building Communities. For more information about this, click here. The tower is available
for hire!
All we need is a suitable flat area to set up on and access to get the
trailer in and out. We can provide all the gear and manpower necessary
to run the tower for your event. We can run evening sessions, single
days or several day events. The trailer comes equipped with 4 huge hydraulic rams, to stabilise the wall and its framework for outdoor use, and to raise the wall from the trailer into an upright position for use. The wall is also versatile, as it can be detached from the trailer for use indoors at exhibitions and Scouting events.
The wall itself has 4 rope points which secure into the top of the tower, and these points are designed to have nifty little devices attached to them, Redpoint Auto Decenders. This is one serious piece of kit! Basically, it acts like a person belaying for a climber, automatically taking up the slack as a person climbs up the wall, and if they should come off the wall, the descender slowly lets out the strap on which the climber is fastened and brings them back down to earth at a safe pace! The routes can be changed up the wall, and this task will be left in the capable hands of our resident expert Roger. He's also the man to speak to if you would like more information on our wall, and he can be contacted by e-mail by clicking here. The tower is manufactured by Entre-Prises in the UK. Their website can be found Here. As well as using the tower for our own Scout Group, it's been well travelled this in 2005. The first major event of the year was at the Outdoors Show at the NEC in Birmingham where it was run by the BMC for the public to have a go. Entre-Prises had the annual service carried out while it was there. Since then we've taken the tower to Wales for the Conway Scout Fellowship 25th Anniversary Camp, to Bibbys Farm for the Opening Camp, to Dunham for Urmston District as well as several other Scout events. It's also been used at several community days including Westleigh.
